Walk down the streets of any Indian city, and you’ll witness a masterclass in how culture, climate, and community shape the way we present ourselves to the world. The beauty of Indian style lies in its refusal to be just one thing. In some cities, style is rooted in heritage; in others, it’s being rewritten through streetwear, nightlife and a new generation of creative voices.
So how do you capture something as fluid and subjective as style?
To find out, we delved deep into the data and tracked the trends to build the City Style Quotient (CSQ): an index that scores a city’s fashion identity based on digital conversation volume, media visibility, fashion industry indicators, and publicly available retail and trade data.
The result: a list of 20 cities shaping India’s fashion, cultural and creative conversation in 2026.

Mumbai
Total score: 96.1/100
City snapshot
Mumbai is where high-octane Bollywood glamour meets a gritty street style. Driven by a fast-paced energy, the city’s style personality thrives on effortless transitions. Think breezy linens that can handle the humidity by day, and statement-making silhouettes by night. It stands out because of its unique ability to democratise style – a thrifted piece from Colaba Causeway or the sidelines of Hill Road belong to the city as fervently as a luxury label from a South Bombay boutique.
Why it ranks here
Securing the number one spot, Mumbai dominates across almost every data metric we tracked. The city boasts a dense concentration of premier designer flagships, top-tier styling talent, and influential fashion media houses, alongside a burgeoning consumer appetite for both global luxury and homegrown streetwear.
Style note
True Mumbai style is all about balance. The formula is usually effortless basics offset by one elevated element, whether that’s sharp tailoring, sculptural jewellery or a standout bag.

Delhi
Total score: 93.5/100
City snapshot
Delhi’s style sensibility is rooted in confidence. The city’s fashion landscape moves easily between heritage craftsmanship and contemporary edge, with a preference for polished dressing, strong silhouettes and pieces that make an impact. During winter especially, the capital comes into its own as layered tailoring, textured fabrics and elevated eveningwear become part of the city’s visual language.
Why it ranks here
Delhi secures its powerhouse ranking as an epicentre of Indian couture and luxury bridal wear, anchored by network of elite design ateliers and a consumer base that prides itself on sartorial investments.
Style note
Delhi’s style language is rooted in craftsmanship. From intricate embroidery to richly worked textiles, dressing here often foregrounds detail, texture and a considered sense of occasion.

Bengaluru
Total score: 90.2/100
City snapshot
Bengaluru’s fashion personality is anchored in a laid-back, functional minimalism that isn’t afraid to embrace individualistic elements. The famously pleasant weather makes it the national capital of light layering; what makes it stand out is its preference for subtle, low-key luxury. Comfort is non-negotiable here, but it is always executed with a clean, thoughtful aesthetic.
Why it ranks here
Locking in the third spot, Bengaluru acts as the ultimate bridge between the worlds of tech and trends. It’s the birthplace of India’s most innovative direct-to-consumer fashion brands, sustainable apparel startups, and modern streetwear labels. The data also reflects a highly conscious consumer base that prioritises eco-friendly fabrics, homegrown indie designers, and versatile wardrobe solutions.
Style note
In Bengaluru, functionality quietly defines style. Think easy layers thrown over everyday staples, where comfort and practicality shape a look that still feels deliberate and modern.

Kolkata
Total score: 85.0/100
City snapshot
Kolkata’s fashion identity is a love letter to elegance and artistic heritage. The city’s style landscape is dominated by stunning handwoven textiles, relaxed silhouettes, and a preference for individual expression over fleeting trends. What makes it stand out is its unmatched ability to make traditional Indian fabrics look avant-garde and effortlessly cool.
Why it ranks here
Securing the fourth spot, Kolkata serves as a critical guardian of India’s textile heritage and a major hub for slow, sustainable fashion. The city ranks among the top five because it is home to some of the country’s most celebrated couturiers who consistently champion local weavers, alongside a loyal consumer base that deeply values craftsmanship over mass production.
Style note
Kolkata’s style sensibility is expressive yet restrained, built on handloom textures, fluid silhouettes and an ease with layering that favours movement over tight structure.

Chandigarh
Total score: 82.2/100
City snapshot
Chandigarh’s style identity sits at the intersection of polish and youthful experimentation. The city has increasingly become a canvas for street-inspired luxury and contemporary occasionwear, where bold silhouettes, street style and a growing appetite for designer-led fashion converge.
Why it ranks here
In fifth place on the list of India’s most stylish cities, Chandigarh comfortably leads the charge for India’s rising fashion capitals. The city ranks this high due to its high per-capita spending on international luxury brands, premium athleisure, and high-end lifestyle accessories. The data reveals a highly aspirational, design-conscious demographic that acts as a critical trendsetting hub.
Style note
In Chandigarh, tonal palettes and coordinated separates sit alongside clean silhouettes and contemporary tailoring, resulting in looks that bridge the gap between absolute comfort and high-end luxury.

Methodology
Wondering how we arrived at these rankings?
Each city was scored 1–10 across 10 metrics (search demand, retail activity, style visibility, trend adoption, digital engagement, celebrity influence, jewellery influence, designer density, everyday fashion, sustainable fashion) for a composite score out of 100. Keep in mind that a lower score doesn’t equate with a city being unfashionable; it simply means that it scores differently across the criteria.
Scores were summed up to produce a composite score of 100. All rankings are relative — cities are evaluated against one another within the 20-city set.
The ultimate style statement
From the high-fashion boutiques of Mumbai to the heritage-driven sensibilities of Kolkata, and the artisan markets of Jaipur to Chennai’s storied jewellery corridors, India’s most stylish cities each tell a distinct fashion story. What unites them, however, is a shared appreciation for pieces that endure beyond seasons and trends. In that context, the natural diamond emerges as the ultimate style statement for 2026 — an enduring expression of elegance that moves effortlessly across cities and generations.
